Data & methodology
Cross-rates use two observations from the same source and date. The source stays the same throughout each series. Reference rates are indicative; actual transaction rates and fees differ.
Data retrieved from each official source, directly or via Frankfurter. Calculations and cross-rates by FXtab.

Banca d'Italia's rates are indicative quotations, not official reference rates.
Dates and times are the publisher’s own and are not converted to your time zone. The ECB usually publishes around 16:00 CET every working day, except on TARGET closing days; BNM rates are from its 09:00 session in Kuala Lumpur; Nepal Rastra Bank gives each day’s rates the publication time 00:00; the TRM for a day is calculated from the previous business day’s transactions; the NBU sets each rate on the business day before the date it applies to; Banco de México announces the FIX from 12:00 in Mexico City; the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank Al-Maghrib, the BSP, Banco de Guatemala, Banco Central de Honduras, Banca d'Italia and NBP supply no exact time. Available history differs by currency and source.
Bank Al-Maghrib is not responsible for the rates FXtab calculates from its data.
The TRM is data of the Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia, which FXtab shares under the same licence: CC BY-SA 4.0Opens in a new tab

Values FXtab omits
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s table contains entry errors, such as a rate ten times too high. So FXtab compares each value from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank Al-Maghrib, Nepal Rastra Bank and the NBU with the other currencies the bank priced that day, through Banca d'Italia’s euro rates of the same day or the last day before it, and leaves out a value more than 10% away from the day’s median. When a bank gives two different values for one currency on one day, FXtab keeps the one that agrees with the others, or neither. A value that cannot be compared this way, such as that of a bank that prices only the US dollar, is left out when it differs by more than 5% from both the day before and the day after, and by more than 20 times as much as those two differ from each other. FXtab also leaves out a rate filed under a date far from its publication date.

First calculate the reference equivalent: amount received ÷ reference rate. Cost against the reference rate is (total paid − reference equivalent) ÷ amount paid × 100, where the amount paid excludes fees added separately. The difference in the amount received is total paid × reference rate − amount received. Rate after fees is amount received ÷ total paid.
History
Divide each rate by the first rate in the selected period and multiply by 100. A value of 110 means a 10% rise; 90 means a 10% fall. Summary statistics and CSV downloads retain the original rates.
Choose how much history to show, counted back from the latest observation. The displayed dates show actual coverage; older observations may not exist for every currency.
Before January 1, 2005 the ECB series for TRY uses TRL divided by 1,000,000, as the ECB states.
Before July 1, 2005 the ECB series for RON uses ROL divided by 10,000, as the ECB states.
Earlier history
For pairs among USD, GBP, JPY, CAD, CHF, SEK, NOK, and DKK, “All available” in “History” also shows the years before the euro: the Deutsche Bundesbank’s daily rates from the Frankfurt exchange, which priced each currency in Deutsche Mark, from 1953 (JPY from 1969) to December 30, 1998. FXtab calculates each pair from the two prices of the same day. These rates come from a different source than the ECB series, so the chart shows them as a separate segment, and the statistics, the data table and the CSV keep the two apart. “Plan” uses only the current source.
For pairs among AUD, NZD, MYR, ZAR, INR, CNY, HKD, SGD, THB, KRW, TWD, MXN, and BRL, and their pairs with USD, GBP, JPY, CAD, CHF, SEK, NOK, and DKK, “All available” in “History” also shows the Fed’s H.10 release (“noon buying rates in New York”) until the current source begins: from 1971 or each currency’s first date, to January 12, 2000 at the latest. The Fed publishes each currency against USD; FXtab shows those values as published and calculates the other directions and pairs from the rates of the same day. Pairs among USD, GBP, JPY, CAD, CHF, SEK, NOK, and DKK show the Bundesbank, which reaches further back.
Plan
For each start date, use the first observation at or after the selected calendar-day horizon. Exclude gaps over four days (eight for weekly data). Calculate and sort the resulting money amounts. Read the values at 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 90% of the sorted list, using linear interpolation between adjacent values. At least 30 historical periods are required.
Based on overlapping historical periods. These scenarios are not forecasts or future probabilities.
Travel card
Reference amounts exclude fees. Keep flat transaction fees separate.
